20 Years of Fish Watching
I have been keeping tropical fish since 1982. It's hard to believe it's been over 20 years since I set up my first aquarium. I'm happy to report that it's still going strong -- same tank, same gravel, same heater, hood, and filter! I pulled this little website together to give me a place to upload my photos and to share my enthusiasm for the aquarium hobby. Over the years, I'll admit my dedication to the hobby has ebbed and flowed, but I never once broke down my tank and put it in storage. Have I always done weekly water changes? No. Should I have always done weekly water changes? My fish probably would have appreciated it. Is my biological filter one to envy? Yes -- there's something to be said for 20 years worth of good bacteria battling for dominance over bad bacteria. I just recently became enamored anew with my aquarium. A thorough cleaning and a liberal restocking do wonders for the aesthetics of one's tank, and mine is no exception. So, I bet you're wondering just what my set up consists of. You'll probably be surprised that it is a humble 15-gallon community tank with plastic plants. Would I like a larger tank? Yes. Do I have room for it? Not right now. Can I be happy with my 15-gallon tank? It's done the trick for 20 years! This site is designed to assist you, the beginning aquarium hobbyist, with a successful new tank setup. I hope you find this site both enjoyable and useful. Please contact me if you have any questions or would like to provide me with site feedback. |
